Tesamorelin
Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) approved by the FDA for the reduction of excess abdominal (visceral) fat in HIV-positive patients with lipodystrophy. It is one of the few GHRH analogues with robust human clinical trial data.
Quick facts
- Half-life
- ~26 minutes
- Administration
- Subcutaneous injection
- Primary use
- Visceral fat reduction, GH stimulation
How it works
Tesamorelin binds to GHRH receptors in the pituitary gland, stimulating the natural pulsatile release of growth hormone. The resulting increase in GH and IGF-1 promotes lipolysis — particularly targeting visceral adipose tissue in the abdominal region.
Reported benefits
- Clinically proven reduction in visceral (abdominal) fat
- Improved body composition — lean mass preservation during fat loss
- FDA-approved with robust Phase 3 clinical trial data
- Improved lipid profiles and cardiovascular risk markers
Typical dosing protocol
Dosing
2 mg subcutaneously once daily (FDA-approved dose for lipodystrophy)
Cycle length
Ongoing under medical supervision; effects diminish after discontinuation
