How to reconstitute peptides
Most research peptides arrive as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder. Follow these steps to prepare them for injection.
Gather your supplies
You will need: bacteriostatic water (BW), an insulin syringe (1 ml / 100 IU), alcohol swabs, and the lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptide vial.
Calculate your dilution
A common ratio is 1 ml of BW per 1 mg of peptide — this gives 1 mg/ml (1000 mcg/ml). For a 5 mg vial, add 2 ml BW to get 2.5 mg/ml, or 5 ml BW to get 1 mg/ml. Choose the ratio that makes your target dose easy to measure.
Clean and inject the water
Wipe the rubber stopper of both vials with an alcohol swab. Draw the required volume of BW into the syringe. Insert the needle into the peptide vial at an angle and let the water run slowly down the inside of the glass — do not squirt it directly onto the powder.
Mix gently — never shake
Gently roll the vial between your palms or swirl slowly until the powder is fully dissolved. The solution should be clear. Never shake — this can denature the peptide.
Store correctly
Reconstituted peptides should be stored in the refrigerator (2–8°C) and used within 12 weeks. Lyophilised (unmixed) peptides can be stored at room temperature for short periods, or frozen for longer-term storage.
